The Taig lathe’s flexibility is nowhere more apparent than in its power source. With no proprietary headstock attachment, virtually any motor with a suitable shaft size can be used. So it’s not surprising that there are many proposals for alternative systems. I’ve tried several and often found myself wondering just why they behaved as they did. Much of what follows is from notes prepared for my own reference. Perhaps this information may be useful to anyone else who is asking similar questions.
