A while ago a customer alerted me to a new product offering by Fisher Machine Products. They have been manufacturing tools in the USA for a long time, of high quality and good price. Fisher is now producing 1/4" shank edge finders, which meet the demand of a smaller edge finder for use in the standard Taig collet system. Previously one would either have to make do with a dowel pin and paper shim for finding edges, or make a cumbersome holder from one of the Taig blank arbors. I quickly contacted John Fisher and am happy to say that I am now offering two different edge finders with 1/4" shanks.

The edge finders Fisher makes are of high quality, so I have decided to introduce his product line of high quality, Made in the USA, precision tools. 1/4" Shank Micro Edge Finders

The 1/4" Shank Edge Finder is available in two different models: Model 250 (left) is a 1/4" shank standard edge finder. $17.00 Model A250 (right) is an "audible" edge finder. $18.50 Both have a .200" diameter tip. Length of the edge finder 2.9" Length of the 1/4" shank 1.0"

The edge finder in use. With the spindle rotating, the table is moved towards the edge finder. When the edge finder tip centers itself against the work, it suddenly pops out of alignment. The spindle centerline is now .100" from the edge of the work	The "audible" edge finder. In addition to popping out of aligment when it centers against the work, it makes a tapping/clicking noise that audibly notifies you that you have reached the edge. This is caused by a flat spot of the tip.

3/8" Shank Micro Edge Finders

These Micro edge finders have a 3/8" shank for use in larger milling machines. Model "E" Micro Combo Edge Finder and Center Finder. 3/8" shank x .200 tip with Center finder tip on other end. $18.25 The Micro center finder is normally used on a vertical mill or drill press. It's purpose is to line up the spindle center line with a previously established point or scribed lines on the work piece. In operation the Micro center finder is inserted into the collet or chuck and run at approximately 1000 RPM. The center finders tip is trued up by placing a stick (or equivalent) against the tip until it trues up. This eliminates the run out of the spindle and collet or chuck. The work piece is now brought under the rotating center finder until its point lines up with your mark. The spindle center line is now directly in line with the desired location. This tool operates the same as a wiggler and as such should never touch the work piece.

1/2" Shank Micro Edge Finders

Set of 4 Edge Finders

	Set #4EF 4 Edge Finders $69.25 This set consists of Edge Finders #250 (1/4" shank dia.), A (3/8" dia.), B (1/2" dia.), and A750 (3/4" dia.). This set is useful when you have to use different collets for a job - why bother changing from a 3/4" to a 3/8" collet just to chuck up an edge finder, when you can insert an edge finder directly into that collet?
